About me
I am currently a high school teacher in the wonderful state of Pennsylvania. This is my 10th Fall in the classroom and it is only now that I actually feel like I have this teaching urban students down pat!
I teach in a fairly diverse school with over 900 students. Over 80% of those students receive free or reduced lunch. We have a very high poverty and teen pregnancy rate, but our school has continued to make AYP (somewhat of a miracle).
My main purpose in starting this blog is to try to bring together teachers from other diverse schools and share the successes and challanges we as urban teachers face every morning we enter our classrooms. (It’s also my first blog so I am very interested in using this as a learning experience for me as well.) I know many of us in urban education have difficult students who come from backgrounds very different than our own. I feel that if we try and come together to share some successes we can continue to lower the achievement gap and continue to prepare all of our students to become ready to enter our society as productive and responsible citizens.
Enjoy and please offer and feedback!
